Setelah Def Jam Recordings membatalkan kontraknya, Gaga bekerja sebagai seorang penulis lagu untuk Sony/ATV Music Publishing, yang mana Akon membantunya untuk dikontrak disebuah kontrak gabungan dengan Interscope Records dan perusahaan rekaman Akon bernama KonLive Distribution pada tahun tahun 2007.
Dia belajar di Collaborative Arts Project 21, melalui Tisch School of the Arts New York University, sebelum keluar untuk mengejar karier musik.
